Qtrax (Or, free music and how to not get it)

Found out a new service called QTRAX yesterday; supposebly you can get free music it off of it… It is said to work by letting you listen to its “25 million” licensed songs by paying for each listen with the (multitude of) ad’s in the program (The program being a heavily modified looking version of Mozilla Songbird).

I installed the program today and what I found was that it is basically just a browser with a music player installed; there is absolutely NO songs available for download yet. And to add to the dismay I felt at this program, apparently none of these songs will work on my iPod… But oh wait, they have found a hotfix for that, and its going to implemented IN APRIL.

I for one will be seeking alternative sources for my music… I give the Qtrax program 1 purple tiger out of 10.

Get Frostwire. Srsly.

My PCPP arrived….

You’ve been a great friend and all, but when the zombie’s come aknockin’, i’m gonna shoot you no matter what”

Notes to self #003-004

NTS #003:
When you are little, questions asked by children are answered as helpfully as possible by parents.

“Dad, how does wood burn?”
“Well Timmy, wood burns because of a chemical reaction that occurs within the wood which turns the Carbon inside it into Carbon dioxide”
etc

When you are a teenager, the same questions are regarded with deep seated suspicion. And rightly so.

“Dad, how does wood burn?”
“WHAT? Are you planning to light something on fire? Thats bad James, bad! Do we have to go to the counselor again?”

NTS #004:
As you get older, your knowledge of medication grows.

“Oh, well I take a calcium supplement every day and take fish oil at night to keep myself healthy”
“Fish oil?!? That stuff does nothing, what you really want is Liquid ala Snake”
“Pft, all I know is,
Xeno-ox-oglobic-orifen has not only cured my cancer, but I swear I have a little hair than I did yesterday!”

And so forth…

Back from the Northern Wastes (Featuring: Tom finds his Muse, and the true meaning of BRBrl)

Got back from Port Augusta… not that anybody probably noticed I was gone but meh anyway.

I finally got back to draw good pictures again :) I’m not sure if it is just the new sketchbook, or if its the nice sea breeze, but I feel I have really gotten back into my element. I made some cool “Invasion of theB-Movie poster style stuff which I’m going to put up on my friend Sean’s walls whether he likes it or not.

The true meaning of BRBrl: Leaving your computer and venturing out into the world, getting a hot smart Girlfriend, becoming either the CEO of a Major company or Pimp of the Playboy Mansion, and getting back home just in time for your Team Fortress clan match.

You are fired and you lose you girlfriend.

A New World is Born

I’ve started my own little virtual world; Sancrith, although the only part with any writing on it yet is the Sancrith Language Blog (Which is licensed under a Creative Commons license! Yayyyer!)

Nudity in Mass Effect Interview, or “Gamer V two people who have no idea what they are talking about”

http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/01/video-sexbox-on.html

Ahahaha. Russ just brought this to my attention:
In the Xbox 360 RPG Mass Effect there was a 40 second sex scene which has caused lots of controversy in the US, and on Fox News they got Game Expert Geoff Keighley (I like this guy, he held a good defence), and Cooper Lawrence (Who was arguing about the game without even having played it) on the show to be interviewed by Miscellaneous Presenter #00419.

What followed was an argument in which Lawrence and the Host of the news program attacked Keighley with arguments that are either a. stupid, b. pointless, or c. both.

Anyway, watch the video yourself, you’ll understand.

Direct quote from a user on IRC after watching the video:

Ahaha, and now I can marry people to each other. Brilliant. (There was a direct link I found, but this has more than one on it.)

Update: Just realised, after much deliberation with Russ (see blog roll), we can start holy wars and inquistions! LOL WITCH HUNT

Update Deux: ULC mailed me a certificate for FREE :O Awesome!

WordPress.com doesn’t like Google

http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/12/08/adsense/

Apparently WordPress.com doesn’t allow its users to place ad’s on its pages, which begs the question; why not?

WP.com doesn’t lose any money from user advertisements, and the server load from Text ad’s are basically negligible.

This is very annoying.

Another one bites the dust (And a Battle Royale Review)

Reading: Battle Royale
Listening to: my rother

Hmm… Heath Ledger died of something, the news didn’t really specify what. Quite sad, since he was a mainstream Australian actor from which I only saw one movie with him in it.
Update: I lied, I saw A Knight’s Tale and part of Two Hands as well. I think that the police concluded Ledger had accidentally overdosed on prescription medication.

Anyway, Battle Royale is really worth reading, I bought it yesterday for $35 AUD. Basically it is about a class of Year 10 students who are dumped on an island and told to kill each other by Japan’s fictional Communist Government (There can be only one winner). What follows is a lord-of-the-flies style read of groups of students forming and dissolving throughout the book. Of particular interest to me is the distrust spreading between the students as they realise that only one person is going to get off the island alive.

Pretty gory though; eyes popping kind of thing.

10/10, definitely worth reading. (600+ pages)
