What I am working on at the moment

Haven’t posted anything in a while, not that anybody would have noticed :P

I’ve been on a kayaking camp this week (I’m working up a post about it :)) and I’ve nearly finished a tutorial on how to play the Japanese version of Warrock but I need to get a proxy program for it :S

My week in summary

Grr… busy week, I had an IT Essentials VET (Vocational Education Training, training for careers :)) meeting at Glenunga International High School, and school has been proving a bit hard. The 80 minute+ bus ride is really getting me down; I can never get to sleep by 10:30 to get up at 6:30.

My Bus

The people on my bus annoy me.

For example, today a woman got on the bus, inserted her ticket in the machine and basically stood in front of the machine, as if that was where she intended to stand for the rest of the ride (and she did intend to stand there). I had to actually ask her to move so the guy behind her could insert his ticket to which she remarked “he can go around”. She was already setting off my “fucking bitch” alarms, but I decided to give her a little credit; it could have been a bad day.
So we got to driving again, and a few corners later she basically fell onto me (I was sitting in the baggage rack across from the ticket machine). She got up and promptly blamed the teenage girl sitting in the seat next to the machine, and bullied the girl out of her seat.
It took all my strength of will to not push her down the step as she left the bus.

School Itself

School has been fairly easy, lots of my lessons haven’t really shown me anything new.

IT: Communications Systems is basically just covering how business communicate and what systems they use to communicaete. All the information for my assignments I have been able to get out of my textbook.

Geography has been pretty easy; Mr Caretii will give us the sheet, tell us its for homework and then he will show us all the answers for the next week. Also he is easily distracted with questions; one questions has averaged out to last him 7.5 minutes.

English, I’m doing Level Design and Electronic games at the moment. ’nuff said.

History is fairly boring; I already know what I want to know about Australia; I want to know about other countries histories! Federation and Australia in World War One is what we covered last year. And the year before. And the year before.

Science. Meh, soundwaves microwaves beachwaves uberwaves radio-electro-magnetic waves.

Random Trivia 1

Did you know:

My biggest traffic tag…

Is mass-effect-nudity??? Why are people so interested in game-nudity? I have about 40 hits from that, and when you consider I have about 260 in total, thats a fair chunk of my visitors :(

Review: America’s Army

Yes, that big marketing tool of the United States of America’s Army.

For those of you not in the know, America’s Army is a game produced by the US Department of Defence as a device to get teenagers to enlist in one of the Armed Forces, though the Army is the most heavily pushed.
Imagine a cross between Counter Strike and Battlefield 2. It is a game of strategy and difficulty, a game where death can be in the first 15 seconds when one of the opposing forces deploys a grenade launcher against you, leaving you as a spectator for the rest of the game. I find the system of classes in the game very interesting, as you have to do specific training to unlock certain classes, like Marksman training to get Sniper, Medical training to get the Medic class role (I cheated on this I admit), and Airborne and Special Forces training to unlock the SF maps.

The gameplay can get very annoying as many of the players are complete and utter (for lack of another word) noobs. Team killers, chat spammers (I don’t mind people using the chat, but when you read “Ubrekilr, cn I swp 4 Sniper?” seventeen times in a row, you will get pissed. I guarantee it.), multitudes of inactive players (They spawn at the start point and the enemy doesn’t know they are there), and people who take medic roles and do not heal.
Aside from this, I have found the game play to be awesome, as long as your team knows what they are doing and what their class means they should be doing, viz. Grunts at the front, medic and Automatic Rifleman (Machine gunners) behind them, and snipers covering from afar (Some snipers manage a front line role well, but others get themselves sniped almost straight away).
Another flaw I found with the game is the loathsome bloat of the game files. To go from 2.8.0 to 2.8.2 I had to download over a gigabyte of patches, which really is just very bizarre.

Anyway, make up your own mind and try it sometime; hell, you might even enjoy it.

Free WordPress/Blog Hosts

A few people around WP.com have been looking for hosts that can use ad’s with, so I am compiling a list (This isn’t complete just yet)

No website placed ad’s (at least that I have seen) :
http://www.thoughts.com/
http://www.blogsome.com/
http://www.Blogetery.com/ (Blogertery allows Adsense as long as they get 10%; sounds good to me)
http://blogspot.com/
http://bloggles.info/ (They put a link in your footer; that is the line of text at the bottom of the page that usually has your copyright)

Paid Blog Services:
http://www.squarespace.com (One of the best system’s I have seen)
http://laughingsquid.net/
http://ausweb.com.au/ (You have to use Fantastico to install Wordpres; I’m writing a tutorial on how to do this)
http://blog-hosting-directory.com/wordpress/ (A list of WordPress hosts; they all seem fairly cheap)
http://www.buyhttp.com/wordpress_hosting.html

Ways to get traffic:
http://www.pingates.com/ (Put your blog link in and it tells several blog indexing sites to check your site for posts)
http://getref.com/ (Apparently this works, haven’t got enough clicks so far(Theres also an autoclicker somewhere on the internet, keep it under your hat))
http://weblogs.com/ (Pingates uses this system)
http://affiliatecashsecrets.com/blog/viral-marketing-explained.htm (An interesting article on one of the ways you can publicize your site)
http://www.getresponse.com/affiliate_program.html (They pay you 30% for each referral you give them. Or something like that anyway)

New School… Gragh… (Or… Chin Bruises and New People)

Just started at CBC (Christian Brothers College) on Wednesday, it has proven to be very… enlightening. (CBC is a single-gender school)

What follows is a brief summary of the last two days:

First day:

  • Got up at 6:45 to leave home at 7:30
  • Got Mr Cox as a Homegroup Teacher (We Love The Cox)
  • Got to school and sat alone with Kieran until Jordi (Somebody else who had transferred from our school the year before) arrived at school.
  • My IT teacher seems a little weird, I’ll try to get a video of him sometime…. Thats the only way he can be described. He kind of rages off on tangents that only he can follow.
  • MY RE teacher asks our class questions just so he can say how he is related to the topics. IE, “What heritage do you have?” and “What do you like doing in your spare time?”
  • The canteen sells out by the third quarter of recess, and the first half of lunch.

Second day:

  • Up at 6:45 again, looks like it will be recurring.
  • I realise that I am seeing new faces in every class. I mean, like people are joining that class since I left it.
  • If we don’t go on the Duke of Edinburgh award camp, we get expelled.
  • I have started learning the groups of students I sit with in class. Well, I know some of their names.

Third day:

  • Up at 6:30, even better.
  • Caught a bus to Mt Barker then to Adelaide.
  • Met some interesting new people; Luke and Sebastian who are in my English class. Seb plays bass in a band and likes heavy metal while Luke likes Punk rock.
  • I walked into the wrong class and ended up spending twenty minutes there until I realised that Work Education is not Science :P
  • Spend 80 minutes on topography…. Learnt it all last year so more than a tad boring. Zack made me laugh heaps though.
  • Got halfway back to Mt Barker before I realized that I’d left a majority of my homework, my diary, my pencil case and my notebook at school on top of my locker. FUCK.
  • And its friday, so it is going to be there all weekend.
